The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach for the Indian men’s senior team on 3 August 2026. Ghosh replaces T Dilip and will join the squad immediately for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

The 57-year-old former cricketer from Assam brings years of coaching experience from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the Indian women’s team, and the Indian Premier League (IPL). This move completes another part of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s new support staff as India prepares for the World Test Championship cycle.
Why the BCCI Changed the Fielding Coach
The BCCI chose not to renew the contract of the previous coach, T Dilip, after the T20 series against Zimbabwe. Dilip was part of the team for almost five years and was famous for the “Impact Fielder” medal ceremony in the dressing room.
India dropped catches and made ground fielding mistakes during their recent tour of the United Kingdom. So Gautam Gambhir wanted a coach who focused more on technical discipline and reaction times. BCCI picked Ghosh for his reputation of running tough training drills and demanding high standards.
Experience with National and IPL Teams
Subhadeep Ghosh served as the fielding coach of the Indian women’s team for two years. He was part of the team during the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Subhadeep Ghosh replaces T. Dilip as India’s fielding coach ahead of the Test tour of Sri Lanka. It won’t be the arrival of a decorated former international. Instead, it will be recognising a domestic coach who has quietly risen through the ranks.

He also has a good background in franchise cricket. He was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side that won the IPL title in 2014. More recently, he served as the fielding coach of the Delhi Capitals.
His work with India A and the India Under-19 team is impressive as well. He served as the coach of the U-19 team at the 2024 World Cup in South Africa. Many players in the current senior team already know his coaching style from playing together at the NCA or India A.
India vs Sri Lanka Test Series Schedule
The Indian team will travel to Sri Lanka for two Test matches this August. Both matches are part of the World Test Championship points table. India currently holds a high spot in the ICC Test rankings and needs these wins to stay ahead.

Before the series starts, the Indian squad will play a three-day practice match in Colombo starting on 7 August. This practice match allows Ghosh to work with the players on their catching and movement before the official games begin.
